San Antonio Housing Authority doesn’t just provide housing, they provide a home for families. They also provide new opportunities that improve resident lives and allow them to pursue education and to find careers.
MARK
The new mark symbolizes the home they provide to families across San Antonio. Coming out of the home are building blocks that represent the pathway to success, strength, perseverance, hard work and education. All common goals often shared among families. The path of the bricks demonstrates direction, momentum, moving forward. These are the building blocks that create a home of opportunity and possibilities.
TYPOGRAPHY
When choosing the typeface in the logo, I did extensive research to find something strong, as well as inclusive. Atkinson Hyper Legible was created in partnership with Braille Institute. It was developed specifically to increase legibility for readers with impaired vision and to improve comprehension. The exaggerated forms and differentiated letterforms dramatically increase legibility. The angled spurs in letters such as “p” and “q” increase recognition as well.
COLOR PALETTE
Each color was chosen using color theory while keeping accessibility in mind. The colors represent the organization’s new values. Yellow was chosen to represent the excellence both staff and residents continue to achieve. It can be associated with joy, hope and aspiration. Royal blue represents the trust and knowledge they provide residents and the commitment to equity. The light blue represents the compassion the staff provides as well as the calmness, safety and comfort residents feel when they are in their homes. Navy will be a secondary color and will be used in body copy, as well as in collaboration with the yellow and cyan to ensure they are still meeting the ADA and WCAG standards.
TEMPLATES
The minimalism of the letterheads helps keep the content at the forefront to enhance readability and comprehension. The white space on the business cards allows for a more contrast friendly design. Flyer templates have been created for staff to customize and use to promote their events and notices. Keeping the titles bold and emphasizing photography and stats will help elevate the brand presentations.
